# Coping Mechanisms
> Coping refers to conscious strategies used to reduce unpleasant emotions. Coping strategies can be cognitions or behaviors and can be individual or social. To cope is to deal with and overcome struggles and difficulties in life.
[Source - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coping)
This file is gonna be a recompilation of techniques that can be applied for different problems, and also a guide to know what to do when something happens to find a coping for that issue.
## Create new mechanisms
Automate processes:
1. Humanise: Do everything manually, on paper if needed, for many iterations.
2. Organise: Notice the patterns that are creeping into your methods.
3. Mechanise: Automate those patterns in a system, either by writing checklists, flowcharts or software.
Mental Health Incident Review:
1. Write down what happened in the Incident
2. Devise coping mechanisms that you think might improve your situation
3. Write down what happens when you use them, the next time the same situation occurs
## Lists
### Remember stuff
- Write down **everything**
- a small pocket notebook as inbox of tasks mangers and/or PKM
- is the notebook is not at hand, a self message to later write it down in the notebook
- Put events in the calendar
- Tasks can be done before the due date, events don't
### Always carry these
- Earphones
- Noise insulation
- 3ds
- Pocket notebook and pen
### Communication
- Ask for confirmation if what I understand is what they told me
- Check if the instruction has any ambiguity, if so, ask for clarification (in other words)
- Ask for people to include context before repeating what they said
- Clarify that due to the amount of _communication problems_ I had in the past, I'm gonna start being very explicit when instructions are involved.
### Tasks
- **Eat the fucking frog**
- Focus on something, don't bounce on different things
- Use timers, like [[pomodoro technique]]
- One thing at a time, most important thing first, start now.
### Emotions
- Feel on the positive and notices the negative
### Something went wrong...
- Do a [_crash report_](https://github.com/0atman/noboilerplate/blob/main/scripts/39-autism.md#mental-health-incident-review) (a la bug report):
- What happened??
- When/how happened??
- Ask Why did it happened until we find the root of the problem
- Write down some ideas of how to solve it
- Create a new coping mechanism

Possible symptoms:
- Hyper fixation and the struggle to let go of the thing I'm doing, even if it meant to have problems with other tasks/people
- The procrastination to start doing something
- The craving for "multitasking", which is more searching for dopamine in distraction while working.
- The meltdowns and struggles when I loose the structure in life:
- coronavirus lock-downs and the meltdown in the institute
- when I'm on vacations
- now that I don' have a job
- The search of dopamine on other places in class.
- The hurry of doing stuff
- I'm unable to concentrate, remember or pay attention to stuff I don't really care
- The constant craving for stuff to do
- My head always with noise
- the love of coffee??
- Difficult to function on my own
- The need of structure
- I'm slowly but constantly losing interest in things
- I have to constantly tell me "this is fun", "this is how fun feels like"
